NEW CROCHET GONK OUTFITS – HEROES!

In 1992, the NIMEGU company released, what would become their flag-ship franchise game, GONK HEROES (Full title, GONK HEROES: Working together to keep the world safe). Designed for their 16-bit Superior Nimegu Fun Console (abbreviated to SNFC), GONK HEROES was the highest selling home console video game that year.

In South America alone, GONK HEROES sold 40,000 units. On its United Kingdom release, it caused the longest queue in history. More than doubling the previous record of 183 people, who had queued for the opening of Toyworld in 1971.

GONK HEROES was proof, if it were needed, that side-scrolling games were here to stay. The game offered the player an opportunity to control 4 characters: FIREMAN GONK, SOLDIER GONK, POLICEMAN GONK and NAVY GONK. It successfully incorporated the ability for two human players to enjoy the game at the same time (Co-op mode). Meaning that finally there was a use for that second controller (outside of sports games).

GONK HEROES was the first and only game to receive 10 out of 10 stars from The Best Gaming Magazine.[1] It would garner an average review of 95% satisfaction in internet and magazine reviews.[2] One reviewer noted, ‘I have not been paid to say this and have no provable links to the NIMEGU corporation, but I have to say, I love this game. Clocked the game twice already. I purchased 3 cartridges, just in case one melted from the heat of my constant game playing. I have already tattooed the unlimited lives cheat code to the inside of my eyelids. This game represents the best of what the 90s has to offer’.[3]

The game designer, Mr A. Esthetics, was awarded (among numerous awards) the prestigious ‘Statue of Genius’ by the Institute of Gaming Thumbs.[4]

OUTFITS FOR GONKS WITH GONK HEROES

Following initial release, GONK HEROES would provide hit after hit for an entire decade. Sadly, GONK HEROES was to be the last of NIMEGU great game innovations. The franchise wasn’t enough to save NIMEGU from eventual demise.
In 2008, NIMEGU attempted to make headway with another serving of GONK HEROES in: GONK HEROES 3D Vs SPACEBUBBLES Vs INSECTS!
In 2009, NIMEGU blew the dust off its cartridges for the last time.[needs verifying]

That wasn’t the end of the GONK HEROES story. In 2016, a resurgence in 16-bit gaming saw a new generation of fans seeking out their very own copy of the original cartridge. Recently, a copy of GONK HEROES went for £2,000 on the Auction-For-Stuff website. The buyer, MR AGONK, stated “I thought it said £2!”.[5]

In an unexpected development, the original designer, has been reportedly selling copies of the game from the back of his car.[needs verifying]

On 28th July 2017 Hooked On Patterns announced that they had the rights to GONK HEROES, and released an exclusive crochet pattern for each character.
