Free Mini Poncho Crochet Pattern

Colourful Striped Doll Poncho

You can use any yarn weight or type, with a suitable hook size to make your mini poncho. The yarn and hook size you choose will determine the finished size.

As a guide, I have used Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky (US Bulky), 100% acrylic yarn, with a 6mm crochet hook. My finished poncho measures approximately 19cm/7.5″ long (front to back hem excluding fringe), by 12cm/4.75″ wide, with a head opening of 6x5cm/2.5×2″. The fringe can be trimmed to any length to add to the total length of the poncho.

I have used a mix of 6 bright colours (Red, Hot Pink, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Orange). You can substitute colours as you choose. Keep to the same yarn weight throughout, and try to keep to the same yarn brands for consistency.

Striped Poncho Crochet Pattern

For this poncho, we will be working in rows all on one side (without turning) so that the right side of the stitches are all on the same side. We will be attaching a new colour yarn to the first stitch of each row, and we’ll rejoin in the first stitch when working the same colour again. Allow approximately 2” for your starting and ending tails, these will be trimmed and used as a fringe.
