These can be made in any colour combinations. I have chosen bright colours for a candy swirl effect, making fun, vibrant, summertime coasters.

What You’ll Need To Crochet These Coasters
I recommend using cotton yarn, for greater absorbency. I have used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Solids, available from LoveCrochet.
My finished coasters measure approximately 9.5cm/ 3.75” in diameter. Exact gauge isn’t important. Just try to keep your stitches fairly compact to minimise gaps and maximise absorbency.
You’ll need some Aran/Worsted weight Cotton yarn in 2 colours – approx. 5g/9yds of each colour, a 4.5mm crochet hook, yarn needle and scissors.

Free Crochet Spiral Coasters
This free crochet spiral coasters pattern uses the following basic US crochet stitches and terms:
(mr) Magic Ring, (sc) Single Crochet, (hdc) Half Double Crochet, (dc) Double Crochet, (sl st) Slip stitch.
A number shown before a stitch means work that number of stitches in the same next stitch making an increase (eg. 2dc = work 2 double crochets into the same stitch).
A number shown after x, means work the same stitch in the following number of stitches (eg. dc x2 = work a double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches).
Instructions within { } are to be repeated for the indicated number of times.
PLEASE NOTE: This pattern will not follow a traditional Row/ Round format. It will be worked in a continuous spiral with a complete, step-by-step, guide through.

Candy Swirl Coasters:
For these spiral coasters, we will need to work with 2 colours at the same time. We will alternate working each colour, slipping our working loops off our hook and switching over as needed.
We will be working the following stitches with each colour simultaneously, in a continuous spiral:
sc, hdc, dc x2, 2dc x12, {2dc, dc} x7, 2dc, dc x2, 2dc, dc, hdc, 2hdc, hdc x2, 2hdc, hdc, sc, 2sc, sc, sl st.
(69 sts in each colour, a total of 138 sts, with 56 stitches around the finished circumference)
I will be giving a step-by-step guide to as when to switch colours, but you can refer to the above if you want to check back on your work.
For my sample coaster, I have used Red and Pink yarn. You can replace these colours with your preference.
Spiral Coaster Pattern:
Using Pink, start with a magic ring,

sc, hdc, dc x2 into mr,

pull the working loop long to hold the stitch and remove your hook, make a slip knot with Red yarn,

Slip stitch into mr to join next to the last Pink dc stitch,

sc, hdc, dc x2 into mr,

pull the magic ring closed,

Continuing with Red, 2dc x3 into the Pink sts, leaving 1 Pink st unworked,

pull the working loop long and remove your hook, replace hook into the Pink stitch.

2dc x8 along the Red sts, leaving 2 Red sts unworked,

Remove hook from Pink and replace into the Red stitch,

2dc x9 into the Pink sts, leaving 8 Pink sts unworked,

Remove hook from Red and replace into the Pink stitch,

2dc x4 along the Red sts, this will bring you level with the opposite side,

Continue with Pink and work, {2dc, dc} x7, leaving 2 Red sts unworked,

Remove hook from Pink and replace into the Red stitch,

{2dc, dc} x7, bringing you level with the other side,

Continue with Red and taper off by working the following,
2dc, dc x2, 2dc, dc, hdc, 2hdc, hdc x2, 2hdc, hdc, sc, 2sc, sc, sl st,

Cut Red yarn leaving approx. 2”, and pull the end up through the last stitch,

Replace hook into the Pink stitch,

Taper off, again working the following,
2dc, dc x2, 2dc, dc, hdc, 2hdc, hdc x2, 2hdc, hdc, sc, 2sc, sc, sl st,
Cut yarn leaving approx. 2”, and pull the end up through the last stitch,

Using your yarn needle, thread the ends through the next stitch along to finish,

weave into the back to secure, and weave in your starting ends to complete.

Congratulations!
