WHAT WILL I NEED?

I have used 100% acrylic yarn, but you can use any Aran/Worsted weight yarn you prefer. For my mug cosies, I have used Stylecraft Special Aran, available from LoveCrochet.

My finished mug cosies measure approximately 8cm/3” high by 25cm/10″ long. They would fit most standard straight walled mugs.

Here I have shown them on 2 different mugs, one measuring 25.5cm in circumference by 9cm high, and the other 26.5cm by 9.5cm.

Gauge: 2″ (5cm) square = 10 sc x 10 rows. I have used a 4.5 hook and Aran (US Worsted) weight yarn.

You’ll need some Aran/Worsted weight yarn – approx. 20g/40yds of your chosen main colour, 10g/20yds of your cape colour, and small amount of text colour.

You will also need a 4.5mm crochet hook or size needed for gauge, a yarn needle, scissors, and a button between 10-20mm in diameter.

Shall we get started?

FATHER’S DAY CROCHET GIFT

This Father’s Day crochet gift mug cosy pattern, uses the following basic US crochet stitches and terms:

(ch) Chain, (sl st) Slip stitch, (sc) Single Crochet, (hdc) Half Double Crochet, (dc) Double Crochet.

Numbers shown in ( ) indicates the number of stitches you should have at the end of the row/round.

To help you read this pattern, the commas represent each stitch or the number of stitches after x.
For example; {sc, dc,} would mean sc into next st, dc in the following st. Or {sc x3, dc,} would mean sc each into the next 3 stitches, dc in the following st.
Numbers in front of stitches indicate the number of stitches worked into the same stitch, eg. {2dc, dc x5,} would mean work 2 dc sts into the same next stitch, dc in each of the next 5 sts.

SUPER DAD MUG COSY:

Starting ch1s are turning chains only and do not count as stitches. Using your main colour, chain 27 and work along the back bumps of your chain,

ADD YOUR BUTTON:

You can use any size button that will fit through the button loop. I have used one measuring 18mm in diameter. Attach it to the back bottom corner, so that it sits 1 row in from the side edge and along the bottom edge.

Use the single crocheted material like a cross stitch grid, following the holes at each stitch to embroider your text, using simple back-stitch lines from one hole to the next.
