These are the adaptation instructions for converting my Free Easter Egg Animal Creme Egg cosies into pencil toppers.
This pattern will show you how to make an insert to fit inside of the body of my Easter Egg Animals.
You will need the same Chunky/US Bulky weight yarn you have used for the main body of your chosen animal, and a small amount to toy stuffing.
The instructions for the Bunny and Chick will be the same, while the Lamb will differ slightly towards the end.
Work this piece in continuous rounds, hooking through from the inside out. You will find it will naturally want to form inside out anyway, so just allow it to do so.
Use the same hook size as you have used to make the egg bodies. I have used a 5mm hook.
making Crochet Pencil Topper inserts
R1.
6sc into mr, pull closed (6)
R2.-R8.
sc in each st (6 for 7 rounds)
R9.
inc x6 (12) – For the Lamb, sl st into the first stitch to level off, and skip to joining.
R10.
inc, sc x3, repeat between * a total of 3 times, sl st into the first stitch to level off (15)
Joining:
Take your egg cover and lightly line the inside with toy stuffing, padding out the curved shape of the egg, leaving a straight gap down centre. Place a pencil into the insert and wrap stuffing around it, and use the pencil to push the insert into the egg body.
Join by slip stitching through the back loops only of the insert piece and the front loops only of the body piece, all the way around. Fasten off with an invisible join.
Congratulations!
You have now converted your Easter Egg Cover into a Pencil Topper.
