SUNDRESS, SUN HAT & HANDBAG
Free Crochet Outfit

I’ve made my Eve Gonk using Chunky (US Bulky) weight acrylic yarn. You can make your Gonk in any yarn type or weight. Use the same yarn weight and hook size as you use to make your Eve Gonk for the clothing.

I have made mine using a 5.5mm hook. This is 0.5mm smaller than I have used for my Adam Gonk, so that Eve appears a little more petite and feminine when stood against Adam.

You can use any colours you like to make your sundress and handbag. I have used light beige for the sun hat for more of a straw hat effect, but you can also make this in your preferred colour.

Crochet Terms & Techniques Used

For this pattern, we will be using the following US crochet terms and techniques:

(ch) Chain, (sk) Skip, (sl st) Slip Stitch, (sc) Single Crochet, (inc) Increase – 2sc in the same stitch, (hdc) Half Double Crochet, (dc) Double Crochet, (trc) Treble Crochet, (sc2tog) Single Crochet 2 Together, (dc2tog) Double Crochet 2 Together.

For a neater finish, use an invisible join technique to fasten off your last rounds. To do this, cut the yarn and pull the end up through the last st, use your yarn needle to thread the end through the second stitch and back into the last st, pull to adjust the loop to mimic the top of the first stitch, and weave the end into the back to secure.

Eve Gonk Base

Make your Eve Gonk by following the instructions for Christmas Eve Gonk. Work R1. to R7. in your chosen shoe colour and then continue with your Skin Tone colour for the rest.

Skip the Dress Frills (R9.{a} and R21.{a}) and just work in the normal both loops throughout. Work joining your rounds to keep the shaping level and then work continuous rounds from R22. as stated in the pattern.

Make your arms all in Skin Tone colour as well, skipping R5.{a} and working in both loops throughout. Join your arms to either side of the body positioning the top of arms with the 10th row down from the top.
Make your nose and position the middle with the 8th row down.

You can add any hairstyle you like, I have attached 3 rounds of hair around the top of the head in 2 shades of brown and split the yarn strands in half for the curl effect.

Sundress Crochet Pattern

This piece will be worked in joined rounds. We will start with the top bodice section, working from the waist up, and then work along the opposite side of the starting chain to add the skirt. Beginning ch1s do not count as stitches.

Dress Straps

Step 1.

Locate the top centre of the back, where you have joined your rounds. Ignore the last round of slip stitches and work into the stitch tops of R3., count 3 stitches along from the centre and join your yarn with a sl st into the 4th st.

Step 2.

Chain 7, turn the dress so that the front faces you, slip the loop off your hook and hook through the middle of the outermost dc2tog st of the bust cup opposite your chain (in between the legs of the stitches). Pick up your loop, pull through and sl st to join onto the top of the cup.

Step 3.

Slip stitch back along the back bumps of the previous 7 ch sts. Cut yarn and pull through the last loop to fasten off. Weave in the end, arranging the strap so that the decorative V side of the stitches show outwards.

Repeat for the other strap.
